Nintendo recently topped the 1st and 2nd position in the North American charts with the Wii and the DS. However, Nintendo didn't do so well in Japan. It turns out that the Nintendo DS topped the charts in Japan with 78K, but it was then followed by two Sony systems.
The Sony PSP came in second and the PS3 came in third. Then it was followed by the Nintendo Wii with only 34K sales. This is really interesting because it is showing that Japanese consumers are not so into the Nintendo Wii anymore. Another reason could be that they already have the Nintendo Wii and are tired of it.
Even games are having a tough time selling in mass volumes. Super Mario Galaxy had a poor showing there. I wonder what is going on over there because the Nintendo Wii is hugely popular in America.
